"Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body,
but rather to skid in ideways, champagne in one hand--strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out
and screaming, "Woo-Hoo,What a Ride !" " -- Unknown

Jul 07 2007 - 10:23 PST |
Sensation White Dance Party 2007, the "World's Leading Dance Event" at the Amsterdam Arena, the Netherlands. | Cherie, Karin, Claudia, Cherie and Erik start the evening off with champagne at Erik's house in Amsterdam. | Erik and Claudia dressed in white. |
Cherie decides we should all wear white wooden shoes. Good for photos, bad for feet. | Those clogs only stayed on our feet for a few minutes before we realized what a bad idea the wooden shoes were. | The crazy girls in the crazy clogs. |
Erik pops the champagne. | Marjo: "We should get Erik a present for letting us spend the night at his house. Cherie: "Isn't having four girls spend the night a good present?" (Erik with his present.) | Claudia. |
Karin. | Erik. | The night starts out right! |
Cherie at the Metro. | Taking mass transit to Sensation White. | Erik does a pole dance on the subway. |
A flower blossoms. | The lazers erupt. | Marjo dances in her white flower cut-out pants. |
Then there were these people who were doing gymnastics in giant bubbles. | The bubble back-bend. | Playing in bubbles is more fun than playing with bubbles. |
Can you fly? | My Dutch friends: Karin, Erik, Claudia and Marjo. | Then this glowing snake crawled across the audience. |
We ended up in the "beautiful people" section. Here's the two girls next to us. | Cherie and Marjo. | More beautiful people. I advised this couple to mate and make babies. I think they liked the "mate" idea, I'm not so sure about the kids part. |
Tickets for the Sensation White Party sell out every year in about 2 hours. | Karin with a white guy. | A red glow at Sensation White 2007. |
Then there was this huge artery-like thing that pulsed with the music. | If you're not wearing white, they won't let you in. | Marjo in the "dance" stands. |
Our gang at Sensation White 2007. | Marjo, Cherie and Karin dancing. Or were we bouncing? | Erik shows his respect! |
Lazers illuminate the Amsterdam Arena. | Then these flaming hearts came out of the ceiling. | Our heart necklaces beat along with the flaming hearts. |
Fireworks, fountains and flames. | The Sensation White Dance Party in Amsterdam 07-07-07. | Let there be light! The sun shines through the dome of the Amsterdam Arena. |
Let there be white! | A kiss! | That's not their real hair color. |
Waiting for the subway on the way home after the Sensation White Dance Party. | Four ladies in one bed. Good thing it's white! | Time to go to sleep. Can someone turn the sun off? |
cherie writes: On the 7th day of the 7th month of the 7th year, Amsterdam celebrated “The World’s Leading Dance Party” at the Amsterdam Arena. It’s called “Sensation White” and 45,000 people gather to dance from 9:00pm to 6:00am—and did I mention, everyone is dressed in white?
Why white? Here’s the story: a few years back the brother of the Sensation Party’s organizer died and at the funeral everyone wore white. They decided that year to have everyone at the Sensation Party dress and white as well, and it was such a success, that it’s become a yearly event. In fact now there are Sensation White Dance Events in cities all over the world. The Sensation White Party sold out this year in 2 hours.
Marjo, Claudia, Karin, Eric and I threw on our white party outfits and white wooden shoes. I had this idea since we were in Amsterdam that we should wear Dutch white wooden shoes to the event. Lesson Learned: Don’t wear wooden shoes to an all-night dance event!
How do you explain seeing 45,000 people dressed in white? Am I dead? As my friend Brian said, “Where’s my angel to explain all this to me?”
When I try to explain “Sensation White” to my friends it sounds something like this. “There was a mass of people dressed in white bouncing to the latest DJ jams when this giant snake slithered over the crowd. Then other people emerged in massive bubbles and started doing gymnastics, and then these flaming hearts came out of the ceiling.” About now my friends ask: “Did someone put something in your drink?”
No, but someone put something around my neck. It was a white heart that was supposed to “start beating” when the flaming hearts came out the ceiling. There was a glitch in the plan and somehow the “hearts” started beating when they fell into beer. It didn’t take long for someone to drop their heart in beer, have it light up and then dip their neighbor’s heart in beer. Soon the entire arena was pulsing with glowing hearts against the backdrop of white bodies. Once again: Am I dead? Or just very alive.
