Colin, Sarah, Crystal, Marsell, Remco & I explored the caves with our guide Morgan. First we abseiled into the cave in the frumpiest looking outfits you can imagine. Then we grabbed inner tubes and floated through the caverns trying to stay away from the waterfalls and eels. We also learned that "black-water rafting" is just a fancy way of saying "floating in a cave". Here are the photos from our latest amazing Waitomo Caves adventure. It's always nice to have someone catch your fall! All tangled up and no where to go. Colin prepares for the great decent. The search for the cave begins! Prepare to abseil. Conquer the fear. There goes Remco. Farewell Crystal. Sarah, the courageous. Sarah dangles over 100-ft from the bottom. Sarah lands like a pro. Don't get those lines mixed up, Morgan. Cherie does a quick inspection of Morgan's bicepts. No turning back now. Look Mom! No hands! Whatever you do, don't look down. There goes Colin. What light through yonder cave breaks? We're inside. Grab a tube and prepare to raft. Black water rafting is just a fancy way of saying floating in an inner tube. Why paddle when you can float? Exploring the dark abyss. Look closely. Those fine webs are made by glow worms. Sarah. Here we go into the deep dark dank cave. Excuse me? Is that a waterfall? Don't worry about the waterfalls...you should worry about the eels slithering around you. Colin tubing. Can Marsell fit? Or will he have to turn back? Crystal. Crawl towards the darkness. There goes Sarah. Ready to explore? Cherie. Caves are cool (and moist.) Marsell still afloat. Black-water rafting. Floating through a world lit only by glow worms. Hold on. Cherie gets wet. It's not the first time. The light at the end of the tunnel. Crystal. Cherie the cave poser. Colin doesn't like small spaces. Sarah takes the low road. It also happens to be the small and wet road. In a tight spot. Sarah and Cherie. You might get wet, Marsell. I like this rock-group. Colin. Just float on by without a care in the world. Morgan. So many passages to explore, so little time. Colin with the waterfall. Ready to come out and face the world again? Let's look at things in a different light. Follow the path to the sun! The final climb. Marsell. Sarah. Remco. Cherie. Sarah makes the final climb! Crystal. Hold on, Remco! Cherie! Well, well, well. Glow-worm webs dangling in the mist. We made it! Sarah weighs twice as much with her gear on!
