300--Thailand: Koh Lanta, Wild Fires, Wild Nights & Wild Otters @ CherieSpotting     Jul 09 2005 - 09:59 PST cherie writes: After weeks of trekking through some of Thailand’s most primitive hill-tribes, the Ciao Tribe: Cherie, Hilda, Diane, Hannah and Leighton (with honorary member Lynn) headed to the shores of Koh Lanta where we scooped up a beach bungalow and did a whole lot of nothing. Koh Lanta (or Ko Lanta) is located in the Krabi province and rests along southern Thailand’s Andaman Sea. That’s what we came to do--rest. Our days were lazily spent in hammocks, lounging in pools, and soaking up sunsets that defy description. Some days we went SCUBA diving while other days we played with our neighbor’s pet otter and watched the native fire dancers dazzle us with their spectacle of flame. Here is a brief taste simple beauty that is: Koh Lanta. Cherie being silly. In life, sometimes you just have to dive in. Hannah's very first time breathing under water. Hilda ready to go. The water is so clear, it's like being in a pool. Attention Ciao Tribe: that beach is calling our names! We swim into seclusion. Rocks just waiting to rip open the hull of an unsuspecting ship. Cherie and Leighton, SCUBA monsters. An angel's smile. Hilda. Diane. Hilda, Diane and Cherie. Diane and Leighton. Hold on Cherie! Girls having fun. Cherie in a hammock. Do I have to move today? Hannah disappears into her book. Catching up on writing in our journals. Hannah and the big, bad, nasty bruise. It's pool time! Cool and refreshing. Ladies ready for a beach-side snack? The sun's rays paint the sky. Leighton, the Ciao Tribe King. Every sunset it its own unique miracle. Cherie and Hannah. The twins. The night has officially begun. But the Thai fisherman is still hard at work. Just in time for dinner. Now that's a fancy drink! Why aren't all beverages served in coconuts with orchids? This plant is delicious. And the entertainment begins--fire dancing on the beach! We are mesmerized by the dance of the flame. Art flambe. Diane playing with an otter. Kids, don't do this at home. The otter's name is Bao (pronounced bow). Leighton gets splashed. Is there an otter in there? Bao likes to play with us at low tide. Otters are cute. Bao has had enough fun for one day. We'll see Bao tomorrow. Hannah reaps the joys of a $4 Thai beach massage. Looks like everyone is happy! The gang's all here for another sunset. Diane's big beautiful smile. Leighton on a rock. The fisherman still hasn't come in. The end of another day in Thai paradise. We're happy. That must mean it's "Happy Hour"! Treated like a Thai princess. Once again, the fisherman outlasts the sun. When the day ends, the party begins. A good night for Hannah! This photo was taken after Leighton, Hannah and I stayed up all night long. Good afternoon ladies. Did we travel half way around the world to come to Long Beach? Thai guys.
