"Heaven is where: the police are British, the cooks are Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and it is all organized by the Swiss. Hell is where: the chefs are British, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss, the police are German, and it is all organized by the Italians." -- T-shirt in Tortola, British Virgin Islands

cherie writes: Traveling to Doi Suthep, we twisted up 1000-meters of windy road in the back of a “songthaew,” which is basically a pick-up truck designed to make you barf. After gagging and choking on the disgusting pollution streaming from other vehicles, we had the lung capacity of an ant. Of course, the entrance to Wat Phrathat was a 300-step Naga staircase. Kirsty once asked: “How are Thais so thin when they eat fried food all the time?” Answer: They climb a billion stairs a day.
We liked Wat Phrathat because it was an interactive temple. We lighted incense and candles, donated lotus flowers, rang bells, beat on drums and threw sticks to have our fortunes read. Luckily, according to the sticks, my future looks bright. The twins on the other hand got a crappy fortune and wanted to re-throw the sticks.
