Once a year we celebrate our country’s independence, and in true American fashion, we try to out-do ourselves each year. This 4th of July, 34 friends crammed (comfortably) onto Electre, a Beneteau 45f5. The sailboat coasted through Newport Harbor with over 150 other yachts decorated in red, white and blue. The boats included plastic kayaks, rubber dinghies, racing yachts, fishing boats, and even a floating Woody. Some draped hundreds of flags over the rigging, while others used their halyards to hoist massive American flags. We wore silly masks, decorative hats and patriotic vests. (Official count, 34) It looks like those sailors have the best seats in the house! Lauri proves that there are many ways to show American Pride. Look at those patriotic vests. Even kids get into the act! I was red, white and blue, right down to my toes. Captain Mark Duranty is all smiles. There's the crew having fun. Elizabeth. They call her "Beast." Colorful sailors. When the sun comes out, the shirts come off. 4th of July is fun for the whole family. Two flags are better than one. Look at those smiles. The boat's unofficial bartender. That's a lot of stars and stripes. That's one big American flag to hoist. Staying cool in Newport Beach. Animal pride. Red, white and blue boats. Lauri laughing. Boats of all sizes got into the act.
