"Heaven is where: the police are British, the cooks are Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and it is all organized by the Swiss. Hell is where: the chefs are British, the mechanics are French, the lovers are Swiss, the police are German, and it is all organized by the Italians." -- T-shirt in Tortola, British Virgin Islands

cherie writes: John is a crazy captain with crazy hats. He has a stockpile of silly hats to choose from and I picked the Wizard hat (for you Mike) and then I was imbibed with the ability to answer any question correctly. Normally one would charge for a service like that, but I gave away the “right answers to everything” for free.
Jon took a gang of us (Dolly, Joe, Lou, Laura, Michelle, Carol, Bill and I) for a day-sail on his Beneteau 38 named Tempest. We headed for Jost Van Dyke, a tiny island with a few hundred residents. I’m pretty sure they were all at Soggy $ Bar the day we were there.
Tempest sailed into White Bay, dropped the hook, and then John taught us a new sport—spinnaker sailing. We joined a spinnaker to the halyard and then made a sling between the tack and clew. Joe held onto the sheet as I climbed into the sling. Then I just waited for a puff of wind and “poof”—I was flying.
After we all had a chance to float over the creamy blue sea, we inflated a plastic island and kicked into the white powdery shore. “The water is so warm because I peed in it for you!” John screamed as we drifted off.
We landed on White’s Beach where “pain killers”, the drink of choice, awaited us. Bikini clad women sipped their beverages at the Soggy $ Bar, aptly named since when you arrive your dollars are always soggy from swimming in.
