"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant,
Gorgeous talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, Our presence automatically liberates
others." -- Nelson Mandela, 1994 Inaugural Speech

Cherie and Ellie share a Christmas-sized hug. | My sister Michelle and her husband Mac. | Sisterly love. |
Look at what Santa put under the tree! | "Grandpa" reads a book to Tanner while Ellie chats on the phone. (There is so much to say when you are 4-years-old!) | Ellie jumps for joy at all the Christmas gifts she got! |
Tanner can't contain his excitement, either! | Chloe impersonates a candy-cane. | "But I have to look cute for Santa!" |
Look at all those small parts to lose! | Let me get a closer look at that ornament. | Typical, Kylie prefers the bow to the gift. |
Dad helps Kylie get around. | Chloe just wants some hair to brush. | Michelle squeezes her little bundle of joy. |
Blake loves his first Christmas. | Karem and Tim with their baby Blake. | Santa must have started when he was young. (Blake) |
Blake couldn't sleep without his new toys. | Ellie holds Kylie. | Joanne and Gracie. *Photo by Stan. |
Gracie. | Witty, the Christmas cat. *Photo by Stan. | Dad, surrounded by dolls. *Photo by Joanne. |
Michelle and Gracie. *Photo by Stan. | Cherie and Tanner. *Photo by Stan. | Chris and Stephanie. |

Who is the silly one? *Photo by Stan. | Steve and Rebecca. *Photo by Stan. | Cherie, Dad and Joanne. |
Mac, Michelle and the twins. | Brothers Stan and Steve, with wives Joanne and Connie. | Justin, Julie and Grace. |
cherie writes: My nephew Tyler stared at me like I didn’t quite fit. I look like an adult, but I often act like a kid. My admirers call me “free spirited”; my critics call me “immature.” Realistically, I’m somewhere in between. But I’ve never been good with “moderation,” so if I have to error, I’ll lean towards being a kid. I’d much rather be silly than serious.
Tyler was confused. His face scrunched up like he had one too many Sour Patch Candies. Then Tyler ran over to me jumping up and down. Suddenly his 7-year-old mind had it all figured out!
“Auntie Cherie!” Tyler exclaimed. “Are you just a BIG kid?” (Note to all men--no woman likes to be called “big.”)
“Yes,” I told him. And Christmas is for kids. Even big kids, like me.
