"Heaven is where: the police are British, the cooks are Italian, the mechanics are German, the lovers are French, and it is all organized by the Swiss. cherie writes: Halloween is my favorite holiday. You get to be whatever you want to be and people give you free candy. I really can’t imagine anything better…except being on a beach in Mexico. This year over 500 sailors in the Baja Ha-Ha Fleet celebrated Halloween in Turtle Bay, Mexico. We had just finished the first leg of the Baja Ha-Ha, a 780-mile regatta down the coast of Mexico with beach parties after each of the three legs of the race.
There were lots of good friends, good food and good cheer. But more importantly…there was good beer. We had a giant Tug-of-War contest with the men on one side, and the ladies on the other. I’d probably leave out the results of this contest if the ladies hadn’t won!!! The guys crammed their heels in the sand and we dragged them across the beach for a clean victory. Well, the ladies might have been clean, but those boys were mighty sandy after their defeat!
Turtle Bay was filled with colorful characters in colorful costumes. Jean and Anne dressed as gypsies, Greg was an alien, and to this day, no one is sure what Dave was (but he had on a freaky mask and a big hat.) I dressed up like a German girl (complete with knee-high socks--which clashed a bit with my Teva sandals.) Rennie was Captain Ron (a must see movie for any sailor) and Dustin was a Hawaiian pirate. Here are the photos of Halloween 2003, sailing style.
