You get to be whatever you want to be and people give you free candy. I really can’t imagine anything better…except being on a beach in Mexico. This year over 500 sailors in the Baja Ha-Ha Fleet celebrated Halloween in Turtle Bay, Mexico. We had just finished the first leg of the Baja Ha-Ha, a 780-mile regatta down the coast of Mexico with beach parties after each of the three legs of the race. There were lots of good friends, good food and good cheer. But more importantly…there was good beer. We had a giant Tug-of-War contest with the men on one side, and the ladies on the other. I’d probably leave out the results of this contest if the ladies hadn’t won!!! The guys crammed their heels in the sand and we dragged them across the beach for a clean victory. Well, the ladies might have been clean, but those boys were mighty sandy after their defeat! Turtle Bay was filled with colorful characters in colorful costumes. Jean and Anne dressed as gypsies, Greg was an alien, and to this day, no one is sure what Dave was (but he had on a freaky mask and a big hat.) I dressed up like a German girl (complete with knee-high socks--which clashed a bit with my Teva sandals.) Rennie was Captain Ron (a must see movie for any sailor) and Dustin was a Hawaiian pirate. Dustin is a licensed 100-ton captain available for boat deliveries (with the hat is an extra charge.) Jean with a banner that says: Enter At Your Own Risk. Harley, crew on Bodacious. Jean with the crew of Shaka: Stacey, Ray, Lee and Dave. Everyone loves a beach party. Cherie, Jean & Bernadette with Captain Ron. There are no turtles in Turtle Bay. The fun continues. The tug of war begins...it´s ladies vs. the men. The ladies pull as hard as they can! It was hard work, but the ladies win! It must be all that pulling on lines that gave the ladies the muscle to win the Tug-of-War. Three 30-something sailors. Jean and Cherie, best-friends since grade 4. Bernard`s birthday is celebrated by bashing a piñata. Bernadette gives this sailor a kiss. All dressed up for the hot Mexican sun. Can anyone guess what Dave is? Rennie is Captain Ron. Anne is a gypsy...or a fortune teller, I'm not sure. The ladies celebrate Halloween together. Al and Dona of Free Flight. Can Jean predict that Cassiopeia will win 1st place in our division?
