Cherie leaping off the 2nd highest bungee jump in the world at Victoria Falls Bridge. | Victoria Falls. | Welcome to Zimbabwe...crossing over the boarder. |
The boarder guard. | Will and Cherie walking down the bridge committed to the jump. *Photo by Dom. | The bridge Will and I jumped off. |
Will and I are eager to jump! (Maybe eager isn't the right word.) | I must be crazy. | Getting strapped in. |
Can you pull those straps a little tighter? | No turning back now. | Double checking my harness. *Photo by Dom. |
Vic Falls Bridge. *Photo by Dom. | That smile is pure fear. | The view of Vic Falls behind me. |
The view I jumped into. | The falls pound rythmically to the beat of my thumping heart. | 1,2,3...JUMP! *Photo by Kristi. |
Learning to fly. | Soaring through the sky...sort of. | I'm on the end of that string. |
What happens when you "go take a flying leap!" *Photo by Dom. | Plunging towards the earth. *Photo by Dom. | Pulled back up on the bridge. |
Glad to have my blood leave my head and return to other needy body parts. *Photo by Kristi | Back on the bridge. | The smile of life. I survived. *Photo by Dom. |
Kristi by Vic Falls. *Photo by Renee. | A rainbow. | Victoria Falls. |
It's Will's turn to go next. *Photo by Dom. | He's just glad to still be on the bridge. *Photo by Kristi. | Will's ready to go! *Photo by Dom. |
Will takes the Vic Falls plunge! *Photo by Kristi. | Who said humans can't fly? *Photo by Kristi. | Will soars through the air. *Photo by Dom. |
At the end of his rope? *Photo by Dom. | Will joins us back on the bridge. *Photo by Kristi. | Cameras full of photos, bodies full of adrenaline, we head back to Zimbabwe. (Renee by the boarder sign.) |

Everyone wanted to see us do it--jump off the second highest Bungee Jump in the world. All thirteen of our tour group clamored over the Zimbabwe boarder with cameras in hand to see if we’d really jump.
Victoria Falls Bridge is in no man’s land--between Zambia and Zimbabwe. No country would ever allow its citizens to jump off a bridge that high. Gambling is one thing, suicide is another. But when you find a tiny strip of land between two countries where no laws apply—anything goes. In other words, for $50 US, you can learn to fly.
Will, our Bundu Safari tour leader, agreed to jump if I would. But here’s the rub…I had to go first. These are the photos of us jumping off the 111 meter Victoria Falls Bridge (well over 300 feet.)
Victoria Falls gushed behind me and pounded in sync with my raging heart. One, two, three….JUMP! I tossed myself into the air. It might have been a peaceful moment except that I could hear myself screaming. Then the bungee stretched and stretched until I could almost touch the water below and suddenly snap! I flung back up and bounced around until I lay still, dangling from the elastic band tied around my ankles. Then three men pulled me back on the bridge and it was Wills turn to fly. The jump was the most amazing and euphoric thing I have ever done in my life. Also the most frightening.
